I honour the lands and waters of what is now called Hamilton, Ontario; territory cared for since time immemorial by the Haudenosaunee, Anishinaabeg, and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. This place is governed by the Dish with One Spoon Wampum, a covenant of shared responsibility that settlers violated through displacement; a harm that continues today. As someone who walks these forests, sits with the waters, and makes art in relationship to and with the land, I recognize that my presence here is tied to this legacy.
Guided by Indigenous teachers and artists, I commit to:
Respecting these relationships, ensuring my actions align with reciprocity, not extraction,
Practicing reciprocal art making and land stewardship, including planting native species and caring for pollinators,
Supporting ecological repair through my work with CARBON Collective.
This is not a static statement. It’s a living practice, woven into my art, my learning and my actions. I hold myself accountable to listening deeply and standing in solidarity, when asked; upholding the Dish with One Spoon’s call to share, protect, and take only what is needed.
